Why Dublin is the 3rd Worst Dressed City in the World

Ireland is one of the most beautiful parts of the world; there’s simply no getting around this. Known for its unique culture, homey-yet-delicious take on cuisine and obsession with soccer, Dublin happens to be home to over one million residents who take great pride in living there. To say that Dublin is one of the best-dressed cities in the world, however, would simply be a fallacy. While there are certainly plenty of Dublin residents who put a great deal of effort into how they put themselves together, the general population tends to dress down in a way that simply isn’t found in more fashionable cities in Europe such as Paris and London. The following are just a few things that tend to characterize men’s fashion in Dublin, all of which are simply not adopt-worthy.

Tracksuits
The tracksuit is perhaps the most common piece of men’s casualwear to be found in Dublin. Whether it be out of comfort, convenience or otherwise, you’ll be hard-pressed to walk down a busy street in Dublin and not find a great deal of men parading around in tracksuits. This look tends to be most common amongst younger men, although it’s not uncommon for full-blown adults to be found wearing tracksuits on any given day. The result is a look that may be characteristic of the city, but is also sloppy and lazy at the same time. Nevertheless, the tracksuit isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon in Dublin, and is a huge part of how the youth culture tends to dress.

Hoodies
Hooded sweatshirts certainly have their time and place, and in an area of the world such as Dublin where it is very often chilly outside, it makes a good amount of sense why they are worn so often. Still, the fact that people wear hoodies day in, day out in Dublin is where the true issues can be found. Often paired with the aforementioned tracksuit, the plain, solid-colored hoodie is extremely popular in Dublin, which causes just about everyone who wears them to look as if they’re the same person. Wearing a hoodie may keep you warm, but it’s not going to do anything to push your appearance in the right direction; even in the most casual of circumstances.

Flannel Checks
On the opposite side of the spectrum to those who tend to embrace tracksuits and hoodies is hipster fashion, which is now dominated in Dublin by flannel checks. Long flannel coats are rising in popularity amongst men in the city, and while they may make one stand out, it’s usually for all the wrong reasons. This is especially true when these pieces are paired with skin-tight checked pants, creating an ensemble that is nothing short of laughable. The popularity of flannel checks likely stems from the traditional dress of Ireland that was popular years ago, but while there was a touch of sophistication to this type of dress in the past, the hipster amalgamations of today are nothing short of embarrassing.
