The Walrus Mustache

Origin and Examples in History
The Walrus mustache first came to prominence during the latter half of the 19th century, with its popularity extending into the first part of the 20th century. Worn by intellectuals (Nietzsche was a huge proponent of this style) and professionals, the mustache fell out of popularity until its popular resurgence in the ‘60s. Today, it is typically preferred for its whimsy rather than its intellectual or stylistic significance.

The Look
Not everyone can easily grow a walrus-style mustache. For one, you’ve got to be able to grow a fair amount of facial hair to make this work, which isn’t always easy. If you can, however, allow it to grow at will while keeping the rest of your face clean-shaven. The mustache should be allowed to extend over the upper lip, and should only be shaped and curled naturally with a comb.
